Faith & Fear

April 25, 2016 By Rev. David Alexander Leave a Comment

Here are a few thoughts I shared in this weekend’s message about fear and faith.

The opposite of faith is not doubt. The opposite of faith is fear.
Growing in faith is not the process of eliminating doubt but conquering and moving past our deepest fears.

It stings a bit to think about but one of the most self-centered things we do is worry. Our allegiance to anxiety is often a rebellion against God’s invitation for us to surrender to Jesus as Lord and to fully embrace life in God’s kingdom where we realize that we have nothing to fear.

Anxiety anticipates future failure while faith anticipates God supplying our every need.

Anxiety tries to maintain control. Faith recognizes that we don’t have control but we do have a God who loves us and has claimed us as God’s sons and daughters.
