Below is an email I sent out to those in our First Methodist Family who serve in law enforcement and their families in response to the tragic shooting in Dallas on July 7th, 2016.
To the Officers & Families in our First Methodist Family,
On behalf of all of our pastors today, I wanted to share with you a note to convey the prayers we are all praying for each of you. We are praying for peace and protection and that God’s Spirit would continue to both encourage and equip you in this difficult time.
In these last few days I have had the chance to connect with several of our active and retired police officers, as well as spouses and children of those who serve. I know this has been a time of grief as you mourn the loss of the five officers who were killed last week in Dallas. I know your thoughts and prayers remain with those hospitalized, as well as all those who have in numerous ways become casualties because of the terror of this event.
And I have been reminded in recent days that the anxiety that is a part of the life of each officer who serves is one that is also shared in a very real way for those family members who in recent days have seen husbands and wives, moms and dads, sons and daughters heading to work to begin their next shift.Today, I simply want to offer you a word of appreciation for your continued service and to remind you that your pastors will not only continue to join you in prayer for those needs, as well as our prayers for you. And I also want to remind you that we are available to support you and your family in whatever way we can.
If there is a need that we might be able to meet for you, please do not hesitate to call on us for support. Know that you can always do that in the event of an emergency by calling our pastoral emergency number, 817-739-6755.
You may also reach out to any of our pastors by contacting our church office, 817-477-2287 or by email. All of those addresses are listed below.
Several people have also asked in recent days if we have made any deliveries of God is Big Enough bands to DPD officers. We have had two individuals make deliveries, but if you would like to share GIBE bands with those you serve alongside in Mansfield or other surrounding communities, know that we will gladly make those available to you as well.
Thank you again for your service to the communities that we call home. We love you and will continue to pray for God’s hedge of protection for you as you continue to serve and protect others.
May God’s grace and peace fill your heart and your family this day.
